What a great moody image you've depicted here, as if you've pulled it right out of my childhood memories!
You have truly captured the essence of a child's wonder, fear, and excitement for mystery and the unknown... what a great story-telling piece this is. I just adore your style, your use of colors and strokes of your brush, digital or not, this is something I will look at over and over again because it tells a wonderful adventure with an ending only the individual viewer can imagine.
